Grade 7 Homeostasis as a Physiological Adaptation:Regulation of Body Heat Science, Math, Technology, Language Arts
As part of a unit on vertebrates and invertebrates, students in seventh grade study how animal adaptations enable them to survive.Specifically, they study the concept of homeostasis as a physiological adaptation.This project will enhance students’ comprehension of homeostasis by having them work collaboratively to collect data about how the surface temperature of their skin changes based on differing temperatures.Students will analyze their data mathematically to make predictions about temperature changes under varying conditions and apply this to deepen their understanding of the importance of dynamic internal balance as a physiological adaptation for survival.Students will use wiki spaces to display their data and record their results.The use of wikis will encourage collaboration and allow students to work on this project in science, math and computer education classes.
